From one anniversary to the next, my parents’ anniversary was actually one day before my brother-in-law’s but we weren’t able to celebrate until this past weekend. I decided to go more classical when making this anniversary cake. My parents were married in Sicily and I wanted to do a dinner party reminiscent of the old country. We were a small group, but we had a great time together, and several other people sent their greetings via web messages.
When it comes time to create an ambiance for a party I like to add a little extra touch with a table top menu. This was fun to write in Italian. We had mainly seafood and then the cake for dessert.
The cake was a typical sponge cake, which is what is common in Italy, soaked in a sugar syrup. I added filling of Italian pastry cream and iced it with a meringue buttercream. The roses were made of fondant and took the most time of anything. They were small which made things even harder, but it was worth it!
